Beat workshop graduate, David Jacobs aka Too Much Hot Sauce, and
was also known in these Beat pages as JCubbs was honored to have his
illustrations on three covers of The Beat Within while he was incarcerated in
San Mateo and San Francisco juvenile halls. Today, David makes his living
customizing cars, by painting designs on the sides, back, hoods of cars in San
Mateo, San Francisco and Oakland, all over the Bay Area. He also paints
people’s portraits and does illustrations professionally. We recently ran into
David on the bus, now 23, who quickly wrote the following for us Beat readers.
Always Remember This! Art!
Art is a language. Some speak it, some sing it, and some even breathe it. It’s poetic. It’s life. It keeps me alive.
Time is precious. Time is not forever. But art has a way of
fortifying itself in civilization. I express my art in portraits, pastels,
custom paint on cars, even with a tattoo gun.
Art flows through my blood. Art surges through my fingertips. Art! When I lay something on canvas, whether it be paper or skin, it screams, “Always remember this! ART!”
Whether you’re a pro, like Da Vinci, or just beginning, I encourage everybody to keep practicing ‘til you get calluses on your fingers and ink in your bloodline. It’s the only way to become…true art!
This is coming from an individual who made the cover of The Beat several times when he was in San Mateo and San Francisco juvenile halls. Much love. I send mines.
