I will be the first to make a comment here for the Beat Within.
I have been working with the beat within now for a year and 7 months and I will say. Its amazing on how much a child will change when they see that people do care. Grant it, most of the kids that are in detention have committed a crime of one sort or another. When I was growing up I to made mistakes, but I was lucky I never got greedy and I never got caught by the law. And now that I'm over 40 I can see just how these kids feel. Homeless, not wanted, rejected by may of their loved ones, and being a simple out cast in life. I know, I know just how they feel. I've been there I've done it, and now it my turn to lend a hand and say it's OK.
The big question to many of the kids now is, "do you want to change?" if you do I can and I am willing to help you out if I can. All you have to do is ask.
I am going to keep this as an on going post by myself, and I will add too is as the days, weeks, and months go by. I will make comments about how the work shops I do in detention and the ones I do out of detention go. I will comment on by the boys and the girls in general and what I see.
If you all want to make comment please do so, let the kids know how you feel whither good or bad all I ask is don't' attack any one in a hateful way because if you do I will remove your post. criticism is good because that is what these kids need. They need to know from us older people on what they can do to better their lives.
Remember these kids are our future, lets lend a leading had for them. Change, change is good now lets help them out.
